Artist's Rendition of Puff

Hi!  I’m Puff and this is my story.

I need to drop some weight, get in shape, and quit fantasizing about those size 6 jeans that are in my closet.  Let’s just say that I have genetics both on my side (thanks, mom) and totally against me (the other side of the family).

Statistics:  I’m 50 years old and I’m a professional with my own business.  I’m married to a very handsome Paragon of Patience and we have a great life in Scottsdale, Arizona.

History:  I was a string bean until about age 24, when stress, booze, 10 years of disordered eating, and all the wrong foods met up with a complete lack of exercise and led to packing on a few pounds.  Okay, more than a few.  About 40.

In my late 20s I got divorced, went to a diet doctor, started popping phentermine like it was candy and WOW did I drop weight.  After the speed regimen,  I was thin, felt great, had reached my goal weight and it was all good.  I was hiking and power walking constantly and the weight stayed off for a few years.

When I was in my early 30s, cancer came to visit my family and I became stressed, depressed, anxious, and upset — sometimes all at once.  I hurt my ankle while hiking and underwent surgery, which never properly healed.  My exercise routine went down the tubes and my drinking and eating habits went with it.

Since then it’s been a constant struggle to stave off the weight and I have mostly lost that fight.  A couple of years ago I embarked on a severely restricted diet (protein sparing modified fast) and, again, lost about 50 pounds.  It was a difficult diet, but I stayed with it for 6 months.  I was within sight of my goal when I fell and broke my leg.  Back to the sofa, eating, and drinking.  And back to being fat.  All the weight came back within a year, which was beyond discouraging.

When Huff started working with a personal trainer, I became inspired to do the same.  I began working out in April, 2009, three times a week, with a personal trainer.

This is the blog of that adventure.

I am 50, not quite fit, but I am totally FAB!
